Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CombatCalculatorOSRS.com (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use our website and tools (the “Service”). We built this calculator to be fast, helpful, and privacy-respecting by default.
1) What we collect
- HiScores lookup inputs (optional): if you use any feature that fetches your OSRS stats from public HiScores, we process the display name/username you enter to perform that lookup.
- Usage data (analytics, optional): basic aggregated metrics like page views, device type, and approximate region to help us improve performance and UX.
- Server logs: standard logs (IP address, user-agent, timestamps, request path) used for security, rate limiting, and reliability.
- Messages you send: if you contact us via the contact page, we receive the information you submit (e.g., name, email, message).
2) What we do not collect by default
- No accounts or passwords are required to use the calculator.
- We do not ask for your OSRS password, bank pin, authenticator codes, or recovery details—ever.
- We don’t request government IDs, payment details, or sensitive personal information to use the core tool.
3) How we use information
- Provide the calculator’s features (including optional public-stat lookups).
- Maintain, debug, and improve performance, UX, and calculation accuracy.
- Secure the Service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot incidents.
- Respond to messages or support requests you send us.
4) Cookies and Tracking Technologies
What Are Cookies and Local Storage?
We use "cookies" and similar technologies, such as "Local Storage," to enhance your experience on our website.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.
Local Storage allows us to save data locally on your browser. This is similar to cookies but offers greater privacy as the data is not sent to the server with every request.
How We Use These Technologies
We use these technologies for two primary purposes:
- Strictly Necessary (Functionality): These are essential for the website to function properly. We use Local Storage to remember your consent preferences so you do not see the cookie popup on every page visit.
- Key used:
cookie_consent - Purpose: Stores your decision ("granted" or "denied") regarding analytics tracking.
- Analytics (Performance): We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website (e.g., which pages are visited most often). This helps us improve our content and user experience.
- Cookies used:
_ga,_ga_[ID] - Purpose: Distinguishes unique users and persists session data.
Google Analytics & Consent Mode
We value your privacy and have implemented Google Consent Mode. This means:
- Default State: When you visit our site, Google Analytics cookies are blocked by default. No personal data is stored or processed until you explicitly provide consent.
- Anonymized Signals: Before you give consent, Google may receive basic, anonymized signals ("pings") to confirm the site is working, but these are not linked to your identity.
- Activation: Analytics cookies are only activated if you click "Accept" on our consent banner.
Managing Your Preferences
You have the right to accept or reject cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link located in the footer of our website. This will reset your choice and allow you to opt-out of tracking.
Additionally, most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings preferences. If you choose to reject cookies, you may still use our website, though your access to some functionality may be restricted.
5) Legal bases (EEA/UK)
- Legitimate interests for basic analytics, fraud prevention, and improving the Service.
- Consent where required (e.g., non-essential cookies).
- Contract/at your request when you use a feature like a public-stats lookup we perform for you.
6) Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with trusted vendors that help run the site (e.g., hosting, CDN, security, analytics) under confidentiality and data-protection obligations. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the Service and its users.
7) Data retention
We keep contact messages as long as needed to respond and maintain reasonable records. Server logs and security records are kept for a limited period consistent with operations and safety. If we store analytics, we aim to keep it aggregated and for limited durations.
8) Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No internet service is 100% secure, but we work to keep risk low and limit the data we collect in the first place.
9) Your choices & rights
- You can use the calculator without providing a username and without creating an account.
- You can choose not to use public-stat import features.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. To make a request, contact us via the contact page.
10) Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the age required by local law). If you believe a child provided personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
11) Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are material, we’ll take reasonable steps to notify you (e.g., a site banner).
