How Magic Affects Combat Level
Magic contributes to your combat level similarly to Ranged:
Magic Contribution = 0.325 × ⌊Magic × 1.5⌋
Because of the 1.5× multiplier, Magic is a very powerful combat skill. Every 2 Magic levels is approximately 1 combat level.
Best Magic Training Methods
High Level Alchemy
No HP XPAlching items is a classic way to train Magic while doing other activities. ~65k XP/hr.
Bursting / Barraging
FastestUsing multi-target spells in MM2 tunnels. 250k-400k+ XP/hr. High cost but very fast.
Splashing
AFKAttacking a low-level monster with -65 Magic bonus. Very slow (1k-15k XP/hr) but 100% AFK for 20 mins.
What is the Magic Skill?
Magic is one of the three primary combat styles in OSRS. It allows players to cast offensive spells, teleport across the world, and enchant items using Runes as currency.
Unlike Melee and Ranged, Magic utility is just as important as its combat power. It provides essential quality-of-life improvements through teleports and high alchemy.
How Magic Mechanics Work
Magic accuracy depends on your Magic level and your **Magic Attack** bonus. Defensive Magic is unique because it is calculated using **70% of your Magic level** and 30% of your Defence level.
This means having a high Magic level is the best way to defend against enemy Magic attacks (like the freezing effects of Ice Spells in the Wilderness).
History of OSRS Magic
Magic has seen significant changes since RuneScape Classic, where spells were much more limited. The introduction of Ancient Magicks in 2005 revolutionized PvP with freezing and lifesteal spells.
Old School RuneScape has further expanded this with the Lunar and Arceuus spellbooks, adding massive utility and specialized combat spells to the meta.
