What is OSRS Combat XP?
Combat XP is the collective experience gained across the seven combat-related skills: Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Magic, and Prayer. It represents your character's total growth as a warrior in Gielinor.
Unlike regular skills, combat XP is gained primarily through dealing damage (except for Prayer), making it a direct reflection of your participation in the game's combat encounters.
Uses: Why Track Total Combat XP?
Tracking your total combat XP is the best way to see your progress toward becoming a "Maxed Main." It helps you understand which skills are lagging behind and plan your efficient training sessions.
It's also a point of pride in the OSRS community. High total XP accounts are often seen as a mark of dedication and mastery of the game's various combat mechanics.
How XP is Distributed
Most combat actions grant 4 XP in a primary skill and 1.33 XP in Hitpoints per 1 damage dealt. Prayer is unique, as it is gained by burying bones or offering them at an altar, granting fixed XP per action.
Efficient players often use "Slayer" to train multiple combat skills simultaneously, as the 15% damage boost from the Black Mask/Slayer Helm makes XP gain significantly faster.
The History of "Maxing"
In the early days of RuneScape, very few players ever reached level 99 in even a single combat skill. Today, "Maxing" all combat skills is considered the entry point to the endgame for many mains.
The introduction of high-efficiency training methods like Nightmare Zone and MM2 tunnels has shifted the focus from "if" you can max to "how fast" you can do it, making tools like this XP calculator essential.
